Before we dive into the holiday content, I wanted to say a few words about the Bare Minerals products I received a few weeks ago. I wanted to give them a good test before I reviewed them, and because it really hasn't been long enough (I like to take my time when it comes to skincare, since it takes about 3 weeks for a product to show its effects on your skin). It hasn't been long enough for me to have a final opinion on them, but it's been long enough that I have some thoughts to share, hence this "quick review".
+ barePro Performance Wear Liquid Foundation ($34 USD; $42 CAD)
The star of this show - this foundation is a bit of a tough one to figure out for me.
I want to love it, because there are so many things I love about it: the 30 shades it comes in, its amazing packaging, its great coverage and lasting power, the fact that it is SPF20, etc. But on the other hand, I do find it difficult to blend (its is a matte finish and you have to work fast - I have yet to find the right way to apply this because my beauty blender doesn't agree with it and tends to just move the product instead of blending it, which is utterly annoying). Despite the non-comedogenic claims, I also suspect it clogged my pores pretty bad, as I ended up with breakouts like never before after using it (again, I can't say for sure this was the culprit).
Ha! I wanted to love this so much. I'm a sucker for good quality dense brushes and this one looked so promising, but there's something about its shape that just doesn't work for me. I've tried it with foundations, I've tried it with powders, and I never thought I'd say that but it's a little too dense.
I love this primer! It is smooth and milky, as the name suggests, surprisingly runny but it works! I truly thought primers had to be thick and tacky to help blur the appearance of pores and make foundation last, but this one is light enough that it doesn't feel like a slab of silicone on your face, yet primy enough (making up words as I go!) to really make a difference. I might go as far as saying if I had to pick an all-time favourite primer, this would be it!
I love this serum. It is very thin, almost runny, and therefore feels extremely light on the skin. It reminds me of my beloved Vichy Mineral 89, which can easily be used on its own but also allows for more products if need be. I hate feeling like I have to spread a moisturizer overtop my already thick and goopy serum. I want it light, but I want it potent - it seems impossible but Bare Minerals did it, and this serum feels luxurious yet light as a splash of water. I love the packaging and the very light , natural scent.
I haven't tried this long enough to form a proper opinion about it, but I'll tell you my first impressions: it's lightweight and it's pleasant. Much like its serum counterpart, it feels like it is packed with good-for-you ingredients like Long Life Herb, ginger and California poppy to hydrate, depuff and fight fine lines, without being too rich or heavy.
Yet another contour palette... however, this one might just be the only one you need! Here's why:
It is small and compact. There aren't 5 shades you won't use in this palette. Only three, straightforward, well pigmented shades and no unnecessary fuss. This will be perfect for travelling or for your every day makeup.
The shades are focused, to the point: Shade, Blend, Pop. You get one cool-toned darker contour shade to carve in the hollows of your face, one warm-toned bronzing shade to blend everything in and mimic the effect of the sun, and one lighter shade to bring some light to the high points of your face. I also love using that shade to set my undereye concealer.
Granted, the bronzing shade is a tad orange for my taste, but it looks worse in the pan than it does on my face, and I really like that it's an all-matte palette.
Have you tried bareMinerals makeup?
